We
develop granulated chemicals. When observing rough surfaces
of granules with an optical microscope, a device with a shallow
depth of field took a lot of time for observing fine cracks
and asperities on the surface. Careful observation required
intuitiveness and an expert guess. The process somehow lacked
certainty and occasionally required reanalysis, and it often
resulted in an increased number of man-hours.
During the development period, a 5 to 6 member research team
working overtime was becoming a common practice. The time required
for observing surfaces and the time needed for reanalysis, greatly
contributed to an increase in labor costs.
The team members are always aware that the manufacturing department
is eagerly waiting for completion of the development task, with
facilities in standby status. Additional processes and a tightened
schedule became a serious stress, which often lead to an error.
However, the VH series, with its great depth of field, allowed
observation of the rough surfaces of granules all at one time,
resulting in quick and precise evaluation. As well as reducing
development costs, the device makes it possible to keep delivery
schedules and to improve the quality of development. |
